Right now, I am a little embarassed by Pittsburgh. I was at the Pub last night to see THE ORIGINAL SINNERS. Do you know who is in the ORIGINAL SINNERS? Exene is. Do you know how many people were there to see her? How many people in Pittsburgh, who are in rockabilly bands, women in rock, who are punk rockers, who claim to have some sense of history or belonging? LESS THAN 100. Argh. And then, when the band was rockin, when the few of us who were up front were totally into it, rockin out, dancing wildly, while the rest of the bar stood around and nodded their heads, THE PA WENT OUT. And the sound guy was being his usual dick self and not really helping them at all. Just shrugging his shoulders. Exene asked him to stand on the stage and tell the audience what happened, and he wouldn't do it. So the few of us who were up front dancing apologized profusely, to Exene and to Kim and to the boys in the band, and they said they just felt bad that they couldn't keep playing for the FEW OF US WHO WERE ENJOYING OURSELVES. People, this is just wrong. Let's get a clue. It was so much like the time a few years ago when I went to see the Vibrators and no one was there. We gotta give it up for the people who made it possible for us to do what we do. Exene is a FOREMOTHER. And don't you forget it. |
