September 30, 2002

Wow, what a jam packed weekend!! I still do not know how I managed to do it all, but I did. And you know what? On Sunday afternoon, after going full tilt for more than 24 hours(with a 3 hour sleeping break) I felt GREAT. I felt like I had accomplished something really cool, and that my life was headed in the right direction. I know had I spent that time in the bookstore I would have felt like I was ready to be taken out to pasture and shot.

So, did my coffeehouse prep on Saturday. Chopped potatoes and chopped onions and soaked beans. I was wearing my new fake campers kitchen shoes(yes J*, the payless knockoffs of your ugly red ones!!!) and my new Spicey Spice spice colored baseball cap(backwards, of course)

Then, my honeygirl came and got me and we went to see Patti Smith. I really can not talk about it much, because it would be like talking about Church. You know. She is just one of my patron saints, and she read Blake and she read Lincoln and she sang "Ghost Dance" and she talked about her mom and she smiled while singing "Frederick" and I thought alot about the cycle of life. About how you don't have to stop loving someone in order to love someone else. I think Patti is a testament to that, and so is Yoko, although she is still sneaky about it. Patti makes my spirit soar.

And so then after the soaring we had to be grounded with some diner food, so we went to Ritters before the Goose. I ate a hot roast beast sandwich and played kdlang on the jukebox(unfortunately, that meant I had to listen to another patrons dave matthews selection, but it was worth it) Then on to the Goose for the Viragos throw down.

The guitarist did not show, which is what I was expecting. It actually made for a more energetic show, I think. We threw our backs into it. We rocked the mutha down. The audience was going wild like in the old days, with the atticdweller and my fave boy bustin some serious moves right up front. It was inspiring.

I got a salvador dali finger puppet and a gold plated dice keychain. I got one beer and lots of hugs and a really good time.

Then it was Sunday, brunch day. I went in super early and the maintenance guy was sleeping on the couch. So I quietly went about my prep. I started the beans and started the potatoes and started the tofu and chopped the mushrooms, and Herbie came and we got it all togetha. It was frenetic, lovely, fragrant, sweet, challenging, uplifting, celebratory. I worked like a dog for 7 hours and loved every minute of it. I even loved washing the big pans in the triple sink. I loved making a 3-1 bleach solution. I loved scrubbing potatoes with a wire brush. I loved fashioning an egg poaching cup out of foil. I loved hanging with my pal Herbie, working it out. We really ruled it in a way I could not have expected.

And at the end, there was a tasty muffin and I put myself on the couch and watched simpsons episodes. That was all.
