Dang!

Today is flying by in a flurry of bookstore activity. I must admit that I get off on these times of year that I am full on customer service girl, instead of being buried up to my neck in paperwork. Well, I am still buried up to my neck, but I have to leave it alone and do the register. And pack and unpack the books. It is very satisfying. I am also collecting compliments from students and faculty who are very sad to see me go. That is always nice.

So last night was perhaps even MORE awesome then I expected it to be. The film was amazing. I was especially amazed by how HOT Tristan Taormino is. Oh my goodness. I had never seen her before. I already knew how hot Shar and Jackie are. And Nina Hartley. The film was just very well done and funny and the filmmaker was a really cute frizzyhaired girl who talked eloquently about porn. And did not let the stupid men who had to talk on and on about how feminist they were get to her at all. That's class.

I am too tired to fully talk about the pub show right now. I will hopefully be able to bundle it in with the show I am going to see tonight and then it can be a post all about the rock. I had just been complaining to Herbie that I needed the ROCK---I truly got it last night.

Okay--just a little tease: imagine Nina Hagen, Toni Basil, and Siouxie Sioux all wrapped up into one girl. In red spike pumps, black fishnets, black vinyl shortshorts, a zebra print top, and really punkrock pigtails. She was awesome. Oh yeah--she plays guitar like a demon, and shrieks and growls like...gosh, I don't even know what. Just amazing.

Anyway, I have decided that there has to be some way to get women to come out to events like this. I was appalled both times that there were not even as many women as men at both of these events----despite the fact that they were both billed as "feminist." What is going on? Are women not getting the word? Are women afraid to go to unfamilliar places alone? Is it economic? I mean to find out, and then I mean to do something about it.

Mark my words.
